Teaching Philosophy
Learning is a lifelong, never-ending educational process that occurs in a number of various environments. I began my education as a child wanting to become a teacher and continued holding and pursuing this dream throughout my high school and college years. I had a goal that I set early, knowing that I wanted to share my knowledge and education with future generations in order to ensure that my students acquired the understanding and comprehension skills needed to flourish in our society. Education is the way in which we build our society, through knowledgeable and confident individuals who will successfully evolve into contributing members of society. I hope to influence my students in innovative ways that will encourage them to share their knowledge with their future generation.
Learning in the classroom has multiple aspects involving motivating, challenging and inspiring students to think, explore, and discover their understanding of topics in an engaging and responsive classroom. Someone once told me "Life is experience, and experience is learning." I believe that students should learn through engaging activities which draw on their own personal experiences while also sharing these experiences with their classmates through open discussion and cooperative learning. As a teacher, my role is to encourage students to question why and how we know certain things, support students in their development of skills needed to discover the knowledge to answer these questions, stimulate students' passions to become life-long learners, and assist students in valuing and respecting the numerous perspectives of the classroom.
Student-centered and individualized education is imperative in order to meet the various needs of each student. As a teacher I must guide students' learning while directing a reflective perspective on their understanding. In order for instruction to be successful, students must learn through real-world examples, situations, and obtain an understanding of how the content affects and influences their daily lives. The classroom design and curriculum should promote students to develop an ability to deeply examine their understanding and beliefs while allowing them to work collaboratively in order to effectively problem solve in the classroom. I also feel that differentiated instruction is important in order to accommodate for various learning styles, interests, and abilities throughout the classroom. By using this teaching style, I will ensure that each student will reach his or her full learning potential.
Student and family involvement in the classroom is a vital concept that I will promote in my classroom. I feel that students and families should have input in decisions made about the educational process as well as interaction with each other during the course of action. I try to incorporate this idea through allowing students to openly discuss their ideas and interests in the educational process. I also strive to create an inspiring and equitable learning community that is safe and secure while also feeling comfortable and welcoming to all students and families. By being fully engaged in their own learning process, students have more motivation and retain more information by making connections and acquiring higher interest levels. Families are also more motivated to be involved in their child's education if they are involved as well.
As a teacher, my goal is to be a positive influence and inspiration to my students. I hope to motivate my students to become life-long learners who will continue their education and become positive and successful additions to our society. It is also my job as an educator to encourage and confirm that students can succeed in the classroom by allowing them to actively discover and acquire knowledge, to create partnership roles in making classroom decisions, and to encourage families to embrace an integrated role in their children's' learning while adapting my teaching styles to meet the needs of all students in the classroom.
